Re: Hotchkis Lowering springs install

Don't be surprised if you don't get a 4" drop from those springs.
From Hotchkis' website:

Improve the looks, ride quality and control of your 1967-72 2wd C-10 pickup with a set of Hotchkis Sport Suspension Springs. These springs have been specifically designed by Hotchkis to offer the maximum level of performance and ride quality. The front features a 2” drop spring with a rate of 1500lbs/in. This combination is particularly popular when used with 2” drop spindles to achieve a 4” total drop up front. These springs will offer a balanced feel and improved grip under any performance driving condition. Springs come in sets of 2 with front bump stops, and are finished in gray powder coat. PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA.

Re: Hotchkis Lowering springs install

Do me a favor.
Please measure the before and after heights with these springs.
Most people have issues getting a good alignment with a 3" drop spring.

I'd like to know what you come up with.
Thanks.

Re: Hotchkis Lowering springs install

Maybe with the Hotchkis rubber snubber installed in the upper a-arm,... it will prevent the lower a-arm from dropping enough to let the spring fall over in the spring pocket,... when all the weight is off the front tires.

Re: Hotchkis Lowering springs install

So I installed the drop springs and drop shocks today, I will get pics in the morning. But I can tell you now that it did lower the truck just about 4 inches, I've got a small block so I am sure Hotchkis ment 4 in with a BB. But overall I love the look and it drives great. Also, it didn't mess with the camber as bad as I thought it would, still gonna get an alignment though.

I'm assuming that you don't have front drop spindles?

Is it just me, or is it interesting that the 2" drop springs are stiffer than the 4"? I would think it would be the other way around... With less travel available with a 4" drop spring, you'd think they'd need more rate to keep it from bottoming.

Very interested to see if you have any problems aligning your truck too.

Re: Hotchkis Lowering springs install

The way I thought the springs worked is that generally they want to keep them the same size just allow them to be softer for more of a drop. FYI, I haven't rubbed once and I haven't been going easy, so thats a plus. Also, had it alinged, no issues.

I didn't do a measurement from the ground, but I measured from the top of the tire to the fender and it was about 3.5 inch difference. I have the 250 in it so I think that might be why i didn't get the full 4 inches.

Picture of my 67 CST LWB with Hotchkis 4" springs in Front and 5" in rear with short shocks, adjustable panhard bar, shock relocators, Alignment was straight forward, had a 4 wheel laser alignment done and it drives great with a somewhat firm ride but corners great. I don't plan on carrying heavy loads in the box.

Is the front spring loose at full droop? Also whats the specs on your front shock with that spring? Thanks

Your doing drop spindles as well as 4" drop springs??? Holy smokes.. I thought I was brave with a 5" drop up front.
