Couldn't find any that you mentioned, however, that is probably a good thing as I am not done with my current '69.

I'm tempted to bid, but I fear shipping would be too expensive.
I'll see where they are price wise tomorrow morning. |

Re: School trucks going cheap 70-71-72
I certainly would have placed a bid or two if it had been within a couple hundred miles of me. Unfortunately, they are about as far away as they can be

I'm pretty tempted to buy another...
Guess I have about 2 hours to figure out if I should or not. But it IS almost father's day, and Christmas isn't TOO far away...

Ad says that flat bed is a "floor shift automatic"? Pretty sure that's not factory but the shifter looks legit.

Re: School trucks going cheap 70-71-72
I have finally accepted that a stepside with utility fenders is what I self identify as needing.
My truck does not yet run and I have no other storage space. |

Several have offered to buy it or the tool boxes, but I don't want to sell it and the truck is perfect with them on there. |

Re: School trucks going cheap 70-71-72
I am all about old school trucks!
As far as Stepside side bins go, I have been needing to get to Alabama for a set for a while. I'll have to buy the whole truck, take the bed, and leave seller the truck. I stood and looked at it last July, finally, but was in the area to haul a cab back with no room for truck and no time to tear into it. Frustrating. Also have my eye on an earlier truck in another Southern State with a low-profile service body. I have always run those on my work trucks, but none recently. A new one is about $6k these days and most buy the standard style, which makes finding used lo-pros a tough find. I get the "identity' thing. When guys saw my '95 on the job they'd say, "Now there's a man's truck", as their eyes glazed over. Then they'd look at me with a look as if to ponder, "So, how is it that guy is driving it?"

Re: School trucks going cheap 70-71-72
I have no idea why, but I really like the short bed truck with the utility set up. No way in heck I would have even considered this when I was younger.

I saw one sold for 3500 and another 2500. Was that a good price? They both had the tool boxes.

Re: School trucks going cheap 70-71-72
I've seen it coming. Been there done that, just haven't had a truck with one in a while. Definitely in the plan and have missed on a few (has to be low-profile) due to timing of money. By the time I get my '72 outfitted it will probably be "just another old utility bed equipped 67-72"... if the cost doesn't go sky high for me. I tried to buy a cool utility bed from Budnick in CA but he didn't take me seriously. Or at least he didn't respond to my inquiry and another local member jumped on it once the year or so long thread was brought back. I guess he didn't understand I realized what was involved, shipping wouldn't be cheap, and I was willing to do "whatever" it took, and had the money at that time. The western body companies had clear distinction from the eastern ones and it would be so cool to mount one on my truck that lived it's life in CA before I bought it. I use Reading, which is about the only one you see on both coasts. I like the rolled top edge, as far as styling goes.
Those bedside bins were used on short beds a lot more than long beds from what I saw. It seems it was mostly short Stepsides with those (and not a whole lot) or 3/4t with utility bed. Those weight a good bit more than a pickup bed and it was pointless to mount on a 1/2t by the time you loaded with tools and still wanted to haul in the bed or/or up on racks. Only if an owner knew their vocation only called for a specific minimal load did they go with 1/2t. Cable companies used these SWBs a good bit when that first started, but mostly in the south and west. Vans were more practical in wetter more urban areas with harsh winters. It made more sense to buy a ruck that could handle whatever you through at it for virtually the same money.
