Re: 1963 c10

63 is a desirable year! Looks like someone was ignorant or crazy!

Re: 1963 c10

1963 was the first year of the same style suspension used up thru 1987. Now 1960-'62 is a different story. You might want to verify that the truck is indeed a '63 and not a '60-'62.

Re: 1963 c10

What CAP said is look and see if there are COIL springs in the front end (that would be 63 up) .......... And 63 will have a wrap around windshield

Re: 1963 c10

Tell tale signs of a 63 Chevy:
Vin number on windshield post will start with 3C
Single master cylinder with mechanical clutch linkage instead of hydraulic.
Coil spring front suspension.
12 Bolt differential with pressed on backing plates and welded on bracket for track bar.
230/292 or 283 engine
Aluminum case powerglide if automatic.
Ladder style frame, no X as a center support and stiffener. Now 200lbs lighter than 62.
Rear coil springs have tighter wound center section, for a more comfortable ride.
Deluxe heater if so equipped will have control cable on the outside of heater core housing.
Instrument panel lens will have white accents around gauges.
Amber turn signal lenses in the hood.
Front frame mounts for cab are right against the frame rail.
No frame around the door glass.
Transistor radio, no tubes having to warm up.
Seat fabric, if so equipped, has large letter I shaped pattern and white vertical V shaped stripe.
You fall in love with it the instant you see it, and realize, it's only a 63 for you.
You can't get the cash out of your pocket fast enough.
You tremble when you get it in your driveway, while you sit in lawn chairs, with your oh so happy wife, staring at it together, holding hands.
You have no issue with taking parts off the other years.
Your pestered by other year owners wanting to buy your 63 grille.
Fashion models want to sleep with you when your out driving it.
You fence it in so people can see but can't touch.
You start plans to remove the living room window so you can bring the 63 inside to always be close.
Your 63 Shop Manual is thicker/ heavier than the other years and is not a flimsy limp left over supplement.
You start reading the Kama Sutra to find position 63.
Life begins to make sense, you find the meaning.
On the 63rd day, God created the 63, in his own image, of what he'd drive.

Re: 1963 c10

my c10 was registered as a 63, has a 63 grill and had 63 badging but had torsion bar suspension like a 62. If you want coils up front than make sure you check.

With all that being said a lot of people are vary happy with there torsion bar suspension. It all depends on what your future plans for the truck are. If you want to keep it relatively stock torsion bars should be fine. Even with drop spindles you could safely lower your truck 4.5 inches in front.

Re: 1963 c10

I very much like the torsion bar front end suspension on my 61 and did the McGaughy's 2.5" drop spindles in the front.

T bar is noticeable "softer" ride then my later model 75 chevy 1/2 with coil front end but smoother.

I would add that if you do have t-bar's it is better with a sway bar added on it...but that is not a topic for this thread.

Tougher to find parts for but I do like the look of the 60-63 trucks with the wraparound windshield. Old school...
