Well, this is a little embarrassing. After cleaning my glasses and using a magnifying glass and being very careful, I got 1.375 for the id. The bearing number is LM 48548. So the correct bearing.
I still could not get it on, until I polished the spindle extensively with emery cloth. Now I can get the bearing on sometimes. Sometimes it gets stuck. If I can get it past the taper on the spindle, it has plenty of clearance. I will have to be lucky to get the whole hub assembly on. I will try tomorrow.
