Repo steering wheel
I recently purchased a 69 pickup that has the wrong steering wheel. It has no horn and the turn signals do not cancel, there for I want to install an original wheel. My question is about the repo wheels. They seem to look nice, has anyone had any problems with them? I notice a lot of people looking for a good used one and paying almost as much as the repo and they usually have to be repaired, this makes me feel that there may be problems with the repo ones. I need a saddle colored wheel, but before I make a decision as to which way to go I thought I would see what every ones opinion was.

Re: Repo steering wheel
I think the problem most people have is the color's aren't correct when compared to originals.
I have a 67/68 style wheel I bought about 6 months ago, very happy with it, but for now the 67/68 wheels are only available in black so no color comparison.

Re: Repo steering wheel
I asked a similar question about a year ago and members advised that the repo steering wheels do not have the inner wire liner so they tend to break.
"Don't hold onto the wheel and pull your bench seat up"......I always did that with my OEM wheel but apparently repo wheels can't take it. I bought a NOS wheel on the boards..... |

Re: Repo steering wheel
They look great but mine is floppy as hell. It's like a noodle. The originals must have a much stronger steel core.
Doesn't interfere with using it or anything, just disappointing. I had the option of paying $600 or something for an NOS and decided not to, as it wasn't perfect. I prefer perfect appearance over strong core, I guess. And "perfect" is relative because the colors aren't always exact either.

Re: Repo steering wheel
Wow, didn't know the 69-72 wheels were so crappy. My new 67/68 wheel has a very firm feel.

Re: Repo steering wheel
I wouldnt call my repop wheel floppy...while it isnt as strong as oem, it doesnt have a flimsy feel to it. Ive had it for over 2 years and its still good. And the medium blue is a decent match actually

Re: Repo steering wheel
Thanks for the honest replies. I guess I'll think it over for a while and in the meantime see what I can find in a used one.

Re: Repo steering wheel
I bought a repo and went and found a used one instead. Repo looked great as black was what i wanted but really has a lot of flex in it. Good luck with it,
