20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
I've searched and read a bazillion threads for hours and can't seem to get a definitive answer!! Hopefully this can evolve into a good reference thread. I know there are other similar threads, but I didn't see any of them with the exact info I need.
I know a bunch of you are running 20" rims and I need to know the backspacing and spacer thicknesses before I pull the trigger on some new rollers. Please post up pics and info including : 1. Wheel sizes (front and rear) 2. Tire sizes 3. Brands of both 4. Backspacing 5. Spacers used 6. Fitment (Do they or did they rub?) 7. Suspension mods & parts manufacturers 8. What would you change if you had to do it again? So PLEASE, help me (and others) out and show off that rolling stock! A huge THANKS to everyone that takes the time to help out!!! |

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
I am running 18" American Racing Salt Flats in 295/45/18 and 245/45/18 on 4.5" back space 9.5" rear and 8" fronts. Nitto 555. A 20 equal is 295/35, 245/35. My rear tires rub center of tire against bubble on rear tubs. 1/4" wide and few inches long in a side to side shift. Corners and such. First pic all down, other ride height.

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
1. Wheel sizes (front and rear) 20" x8.5
2. Tire sizes - Cant remember front but rear is 275/40/20 3. Brands of both - Centerline Smoothies & Nitto tires(i think) 4. Backspacing - 5.4 5. Spacers used - none 6. Fitment (Do they or did they rub?) - I dont know if they would rub on a stock truck. 7. Suspension mods & parts manufacturers - GSI suspension 8. What would you change if you had to do it again? - I like the "delmo" wheel setup but I like other setups just as much. I like spoked racing type wheels. It ran and drove a few weeks ago. Just pulled the engine for an LS |

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
1. Wheel sizes (front and rear)...20x8.5 and 20x10
2. Tire sizes...245/45-20 and 275/40-20 3. Brands of both...Billet Specialties Vintec series SLD89 wheels and Continental Extreme contact DW tires. 4. Backspacing...Rear is 4.5" and front is 5.25" 5. Spacers used...none 6. Fitment (Do they or did they rub?) no. fit is tight near fender lip in rear, some trucks may need to trim a bit. 7. Suspension mods & parts manufacturers...All porterbuilt bagged suspension, level 2 rear, level 1 (mild) front, LS3 engine. 8. What would you change if you had to do it again?...Nothing, I took a lot measurements and knew exactly what I was getting. Anyone doing this should measure regardless what everyone here is doing, although should be relatively close. I do wonder what the truck would look like if I had these wheels in charcoal or black, polished is hard to keep new looking for a DD driver. |

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
I've often wondered this myself. Don't seem to see many 60-66 with 20" especially on static dropped trucks. Don't see many.

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
I am going out on a limb a say ride quality and potholes would be a good reasons. Nothing like a good old fashion rail road crossing kept me on 15s for long time. I went with a more classic look but had to clear big brakes. I like a Lil more meat. I have seen more than one damage rim from low profile tires. Had them on another car.

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
Almost every new car I have gotten seem to have big rims on it, my latest being an Audi, that thing rides pretty sweet on 19's, way better than my 15's on my other truck, it's all in the suspension. Air ride with 20's should be cake. Let's face it, bigger rims with the right BS are not off the shelf wheels for 60-66. You can make some work with spacers or limiting the width. Getting wheels in the right back space is costly, and a lot of folks can't justify that cost difference. If someone knows of a 10" wide wheel with proper BS off the shelf, please post them up here.

Re: 20" Wheels & Backspacing Question - PLZ HELP
Hi forcedinduction. Wheels are a difficult topic, due to all the variables we introduce when adding different brands of drop spindles and front disc brakes, then whether you run a later model (wider for front discs) axle. My wheels aren't 20's, they're 22's with 265/35 tires. They ride nice... whenever the road smooth. Rough roads equal a tooth-rattling ride. I've never ridden in a bagged truck, but I would assume that it would be less harsh.

Quote:
2. Tire sizes...265/35-22 (29.3" OD & 10.4" wide) 3. Brands of both...GM Transit or Transport wheels, Ironman iMove SUV tires. 4. Backspacing...6" 5. Spacers used...front none, rear 1-3/4" thick 6. Fitment (Do they or did they rub?) no rubs. CPP Modular 2-1/2" drop spindles & 2" drop springs, stock width 1965 rear axle with stock drum brakes and 5" drop springs. 8. What would you change if you had to do it again?...I'm a little worried about the durability of these wheels. I hear they dent easily. I wonder if car tires may have been a better choice ride-wise? Here's a pic...
