B Pillar Question

Anyone graft a truck B pillar into the blazer bedside? Did it work? Any issues?

Do you have pix of what you are looking to replace? That may help us with a response.

I've witnessed almost every part of these trucks get replaced with patch panels, NOS parts and old scrap pieces from other Blazers/trucks so anything is possible.

My B pillars were gone, so I don't know what "right" looks like. I am thinking of grafting in a truck patch into my bedside and attach it to the inner rocker. I saw the replacement for the Blazers, but at $130+, there has to be an alternative....

Thoughts?

I have some B pillars cut out and blasted can get you some pictures if interested. They are not perfect but better than nothing.

I checked your build thread and found pictures of what I think you are referring to - the lower section of the B-Pillar where it meets the front floor, support for rear floor and the bedside.

Many of us have been through that area.

Some truck parts can be modified to work. Some of them are specific to just Blazers (bedside to floor support, inner bedside support to name two that I can think of).

Get us some closer pix of the area and we can tell you what pieces you will need.

Here is a link to my build where I fixed that area. Post #107 is where I started to dive into that section so you can see what is involved.

I am thinking like what you did in post 141 last picture. I was hoping to see what the factory did just to make sure I am not off in left field. My panels have been cut so they have some flex in them that I am fighting with the door alignment. That will be this weekends fight.

2 first steps-

Is the top on it?
Are the body mount cushions/bolts in good shape?

It really helps if both of these are done first to assure alignment is within spec of factory.

I wouldn't cut anything until the body is shimmed and the doors open/close correctly with the top on it. My $.02.

If no top is available - you may need to 'adjust' the firewall, etc. until you are within specs, brace the tub, and then start your work in this area.

Top is going on before any final welding or outer rocker fitting.
Body mounts are in great shape, looks like they have been replaced. I really don't have much to work with on aligning because the body was hacked up so bad. Going on the fly for most of this, but I think I can get it close to where it needs to be. Bracing does me no good at the moment, everything is sloppy...

Replacement door does close good without the seals, getting those out also.

I would bolt on the top before you do any more cutting - then shim the body so the doors close correctly....then start working on the a-pillar, floor, etc.

Getting the top on and the doors shutting right will get it somewhat aligned.

What is your time worth? Those new B-pillar patches are a bit expensive ,but they work great. The set I bought a while back were very heavy gauge metal, and an exact fit. Saved me hours of fabrication, which in my opinion offset the cost.

Luckily this piece is the same as any 67-72 pickup so that will make finding some good ones a bit easier.

I went with the patch panel also, and all of the rotten stuff you will find under that panel is flat so you can make your own little patches.

And to llks dcvn, wow you took on some serious rust, good job man!
