What is it about this particular truck?
I think a lot of the regulars here know I bought Livrats 68 GMC/Chevy K20 a little while back. Really haven't done a ton to it. Slowly upgrading the interior. Took off the canopy. Put new tires and wheels on it. I think that's about it so far.
Ive had a bunch of these trucks, but only a few that I have put any real miles on. And my last K20 was actually a pretty decent truck, paint was a little faded, I was second owner, and I did put a lot of NOS stuff on it. There were a few " Hey nice truck" comments but nothing big. Anyway cut to the chase. It seems like when ever Im out and about in this truck I get thumbs up, love the truck, just a lot of really nice comments. And already Ive had people enquire if it was for sale. No idea if they would have really ponied up any money lol. Honestly its just a calico truck. Nothing near what so many of you drive (geeze you guys must get inundated haha) I have to admit though when I look out back where I keep it fenced in and locked up the darn thing just makes me smile. Some guy today asked if I was interested in selling it (it floors my honey when we are out and about and people comment on it) I just said sure for the right price (how many of us have had this conversation before?) He asked me what the right price was ... I told him it would have to come from him. He tried to hand me a card ... If you ever get serious about selling give me a call. Geeze buddy you aren't doing me a favor by offering to buy my truck. I said, no thanks, but if you are ever out and about and see me and are serious ... come make me a serious offer. Just look at this truck ... doesn't it make you smile? Hahaha!

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
The stance is perfect for sure. It just has that right amount of lift and good ole fashioned truck wheels, and the tires are meaty, but not to outrageous. I definetly agree man, sweet ride

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
Well, it sits great and some guys can see past the miss matched paint knowing your using good solid original metal rather than repop. You've got a great truck .

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
It looks solid and healthy, while the mixed paint makes it less intimidating (to those wanting to buy). My '72 isn't all done up looking like money dumped in it, so I get offers to buy all the time. They think it will be something cheap. the wheels set it off nicely. They did the same for my '72... instant retro cool 4wd straight out of the '70s. I also think they see the ultimate chore boy occasional use ready for foul weather buddy waiting to help when needed.
Most of all, I think it's that GMC grille K/20s have always been my top dog. I like them all, have had about all of them, but these fit who I am and what I need more than the rest. They are what I would have ordered back then when buying a new truck.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
I agree, stance is perfect as well as your old school rim choice. IMHO slots are the only after market rims that look good on these trucks... I've have had people ask me if my truck is for sale while I'm out in it as well. Its funny how they ask if its for sale but they are never willing to be the first to throw out a price.

Great truck! Stance is perfect. Paint matching or not it's tough.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
First of all, great looking truck. I have the same thing happen to me whenever I'm out. I get the "would you sell it? " all the time, and "how much would you take for it?". The answer is always the same. No, or as they say in Spanish, No. I've had offers up to $9500, and a few of them, I'm pretty sure they had the funds. Had one of them stop at my house while I was under the hood.
I've had the "Old Girl" since my son was eight weeks old (he'll be 25 on he next birthday) so I've not made any plans to ever sell. |

I love the look!
What wheels and tires did you put on? We just got a 70 GMC K20 and are looking for what you have.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
Over the years I have had a ton of interesting cars and trucks. More than the average old car and truck enthusiast. The only other ride I had that got this kind of attention was my 61 Lincoln convertible. It was a pretty nice looking ride and something you just dont see tooling around.
I just think its funny that this "old truck" garners so much favor. Ive gotten used to the lift so I dont think Ill drop it down like I was going to. My long term plans call for a 72 Chev nose and 505 green paint. But honestly the GMC grill is growing on me and I'm actually fine with the two tone (haha) paint.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
Out of all of these trucks I generally prefer the 71-72 Chevy my self. That said, i would leave the gmc front end alone. I'm with Tim on this one. There's something about the gmc grill on a 4x4 that just looks perfect. They just look tough. I've actually thought about swapping the gmc stuff onto my K/20 quite a few times.
It's definitely got a lot going for it the great stance, 3/4 ton, Gmc. A set of front hooks would be killer! Regardless It's a nice truck.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
It's a nice truck. Has its own personality. I think we all get a share of compliments. 67-72 are nice.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
I think we see the flaws and others see potential.I love my truck and have had it for more than ten years.Paint is faded and it has primer spots but I can't help but smile when I look at it,even though I know the shifter is stiff, the headers leak, the door is misaligned. Still the best truck I ever had. I have had a 66 Mustang,a 70 and 72 Cutlass,64 Chevelle convertible and nothing brings me the same pleasure as my truck.

Re: What is it about this particular truck?
When I was 16 and driving my first GF around in my truck (same one I'm rebuilding now, the 1972 stepper), a guy offered me $5,000.00 for it, on the spot.
Of course, he was seeing the bondo repaint when it was still fresh. I am preparing myself, mentally, to go through that again. CG: your truck is a "tough" looking truck and I guess the mismatched paint makes it look affordable. |
