Lokar shifter???

I am looking at the 23'' shifter #ats6350an on ebay sold by speedway. this looks like the best deal because it comes with shifter boot. they have a installation video but the transmission is out of vehicle. has anyone bought this? how difficult is installation with transmission still in truck? there is a similar shifter made by American shifter that is way cheaper but I have not found any feedback on this one. any input appreciated. THANKS

I used to have a 23" Lokar shifter in my truck. Installation isn't bad, but the trans will need to be removed. It can be done with it in, but things will much quicker and easier with it out.

Lokar makes a great product. I loved mine, and in many ways, I miss it. I removed it to go for a cleaner interior look, but now I want another one. I may go 16" this time, though.

It depends on what you buy. I believe with the trans mount kit you will need to at least drop, maybe remove the trans.

I used the floor mount kit, I did not remove the trans, you just need to look at what you have, think about it, measure, cut a small hole first, then work from there. The floor mount model needs to be offset to the DS so the shift arm lines up with the one on the trans.

I think mine is the shorter one. Been in the truck since 2006, $$$, but great product.

Mine is hooked to a 700R4 and I bump shift it between 3rd and OD all the time.

this is all good stuff to know.i like the shifter but not enough to pull the transmission.

I helped a friend install one. We removed the trans crossmember to let the trans drop down. We did not have any big problems, pretty straight forward install. This was on a '55 210 car. This install was the transmission mounted shifter. We also bought it from Speedway. You have to cut a good sized hole in the trans hump. The boot is just a thin leather looking substance and the shifter transmitted a lot of noise into the car. If I were doing another, I would opt for the one that mounts on the floor and uses a cable. I think it would be easier to install and be much quieter.

Not the length your looking at but here is my wife's setup. She chose the floor mount to replace a cheap junk shifter someone installed and cut a huge hole in the floor. I patched the hole and installed the shifter with little fuss out in the dirt, no pulling trans for the floor mount. Lokar is top quality in my opinion no complaints.

That's the same thing I posted, it's their "floor shift" model. However, it's doesn't use a cable (it can't). It uses a threaded rod to "push" and "pull" the shift linkage on the trans. A cable can only pull.

I run the Lokar 23" shifter to my 700R4 Trans with the Floor Mount instead of the tail mount.


Love the Lokar Shifters, I have them in 2 of my hot rods and a gennie shift in the 3rd.

Main difference is the Gennie shifter uses detents (you move the shifter slightly to the side and change gears, the lokar has the push button on the knob.

I have been looking at the different styles. unless I am reading this wrong Lokar offers a hard linkage style and a cable operated .these are two different part numbers. looking at the 23'' double bend.

Nice. That's like the heater cables. Hadn't thought of that kind of cable. That wasn't available when I bought mine.

I would recommend the floor mount type , just because it will eliminate alot of unnecessary vibration traveling through the transmission. The most time consuming thing for me was locating it just in the right place to insure i could put the shifter in first gear without hitting the bench. Overall it is a very nice shifter and made well.

You're way fine. Mine is about 12" farther back than yours and it's still got a few inches of room when down in 1st.
