1950 AD LS Swap Exhaust
I'm in the parts collecting stage of my 5.3 swap for my 1950 AD. I'm looking for exhaust manifolds and from what I've read so far, C5 manifolds seem to be the best fit in the AD chassis. Is that what most of you guys are using? Anyone found something that fits better? Pictures are always good!

Seems like there are a few that fit, but it can be difficult to route the steering.

FWIW-
I tried the shorty late Camaro headers - there's a little interference at the flange and the frame rail, maybe about a quarter of an inch. The discharge flange is a nasty looking thing. Might have worked to cut the flange off and put in a downtube if you could buy them uncoated. I tried Camaro and GTO long tubes too and couldn't get enough clearance to the frame rails, Oh, and I wanted to use the stock pedals, and they hit the Camaro headers. The Corvette manifolds are stainless but they're double walled, and it makes it a bit of a PITA to cut the flange off and weld another one on. I have a pair with one of the flanges cut off if anyone wants them, PM me. If I had it to do over again, I'd be looking at those Hooker cast manifolds, the Sanderson headers, or SS Trailblazer manifolds. I made some for my '49. It was expensive and a huge time-suck. |

Sorry to be off the subject, but hey e015475, what transmission are you using? I want a T56 but its kinda pricey. I'm looking for an alternative.

It is a world class T5 out of an early 90's V8 Camaro. The tailshaft housing was replaced with one from an S10 to move the shifter forward in my truck cab. I plan on upgrading to a TKO 500 or 600 when I get the money - this transmission is at its limit with the 5.3L V8
The bellhousing is a reproduction GM 621. Flywheel is a cheap Sachs 1075 for the manual transmission LS truck motors. LS2 pilot bushing and a BB Chevy clutch with the 28 spline disk I'd considered the NV3500 but didn't like the splits in the ratios. If I don't abuse it too bad, this T5 should last for a while and I can use all the clutch and bellhousing when I get a few nickles to rub together for a TKO. |

I have my LS in my 1950 and during mock up I had LS6 manifolds fitting with very little clearance. When I did my final install they no longer fit. It was close before so I don't know what changed. I am going to go with the Hooker manifolds next.

yes, the corvette manifolds fit great with Mustang II suspension, the double wall welded ones,bat wing oil pan too.

The C5 manifolds on my swap are a tight fit but they do fit. I am also running part of the C5 exhaust system but modified it a little bit.
