so as advertised a 2002 mountainer awd, 4lo and 4hi, independent rear wheel drive and 4 wheel disc brakes. unfortunately at some point the front transfer case and drive shaft were removed. the wheelbase is 113.7 60.9 in the front and 61.2 in the rear which is a 8.8. i believe those are good measurements? im still going to take the cab off and look at what i have. even without awd i like it better then a s10. i hope im not going to learn later theres a reason people dont use a mountaineer chassis? something tells me i should wear a cup this build because everyday im going to get kicked in the nuts with this mountaineer. any advice or concerns yall may have to prevent this will be truly appreciated! on the bright side i did win a 02 escalade for 500 bucks. theres my 6.0 and trans. hopefully theres enough parts to sale and get most of that back

How are you gonna incorporate the LS and trans into the mountaineer chassis and drivetrain with the all wheel drive

Its probably because there will be a lot of "custom one off stuff"...of the top of my head, cab/body mounts, motor mounts if going w/LS, trans mount, radiator mount, etc...

When you start getting into that many mounts, i'm sure the long timer's will chime in that body alignment becomes "interesting".

Plus given your current set up you're probably going to need to find a 2wd front suspension and hope it bolts in, or to Mongocanfly's comment, how are you going to mate the drivetrain to the LS?

Not saying it can't be done. Anything can be done with the will, time and money....(see moon landing ). So this build will need a lot of trial and error, (see will and time) and if you have to keep going to the well, might need more parts (see money). To answer the question of why it hasn't been done is probably no one wanted to invest the time, will/energy or money to get it done.

It does sound interesting though and hope you can get it done.

Size: 35.9 KB iMy brothers a machinist. He's talked me into believing we can make an adapter to use with or with out the factory transfer case to tie everything together? I knows there's electronics involved but I'm pretty sure I can get around that? Notice how I put question marks behind most of my sentences. I don't know for sure, we just think we can. Please tell me your doubts or concerns! I love criticism! Especially when it saves me time and money! That's the main reason I'm putting a build on the Internet. No offense I like new friends, but not being kicked in the balls is my ultimate goal at my age. I just got back from drinking at a friends shop. I hope anything I'm saying doesn't come out wrong. I'd like to say thanks and I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot. Good night!

Lol sorry my friend just bought the trailer with air bags. It's The 1st time I've ever seen one. Truly impressive! I don't want to buy one but I'd like to build surely there's a way cheap?

Iowaboy pretty much is spot on..(moon landing) i like that..anything is possible..if you do much reading on here theres alot of projects that get off to a great start and then seem to disappear over time (unfinished)as time/money/interest/ becoming overwhelmed all become issues..they just seem to fall by the wayside..don't do anything until you have a plan and expect to change that plan several times..there will be a lot of trial and error with everything you do..I hate electrical but that may be the easiest part of this...the LS harness is pretty much stand alone...alignment of body parts and mismatched mechanicals could get interesting to say the least..what does the mountaneer bare frame look like? ( I could see this leading to a lot of drinking at your shop to) haha.. depending on your level of fab skills carries a lot of weight on a untested combination of parts.. (somebody had to be the first to do the s10 frame swap) ( somebody had to be first to do every mod we do to our trucks)...but there's a lot to be said for using the info found here on a swap that's been done many times and you would have a wealth of info to fall back on..

i absolutely agree. im very fortunate to have a lot of friends in all areas i may need help in. im also an electrical contractor. which is a great bartering tool, everybody needs a plug and or lights somewhere. that along with this forum im hoping itll go so much easier than my 1st build. now the build has to be completed because i talked some mad trash to my buddy last night about spanking his border line dragster. its amazing what a 6 pack will do to my mouth. thanks for tagging along and the advice!!
