55 thru 66 short stepside will fit, the mid and long beds have a different cutout and bracket

i've always liked the side mounted spare, my first 58 had it as did a few more since
i did have top modify my drivers side mirror for the wide spare tire

Mine is a 58 Longbed Stepside , does that make a difference on Fender and/or tire Mount Bracket ??

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

So the physical fender is longer in a longbed ?? or is it something else ??

So this means i have to locate a Longbed/Stepside ONLY , fender/bracket ??

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

not physically long, the fender cutout is in a different location
this is g&r's 58 1/2 ton 3200 8 foot long bed with side mount spare, look at the height and location of the cutout
same bed, fender and bracket is used on the 3600 3/4 ton trucks

vs my 58 1/2 ton 3100 6 foot short bed
location, location, location

this is a 59 1 ton 3800 9 foot long bed and same fender and bracket as the 3200 and 3600
the extra foot is added behind the fender

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

3100 is short bed only, i believe you can use any 55-66 3200, 3600 or 3800 fender and bracket
the 60-66 trucks use the C/K designation; C10 being a short 1/2 ton
here's a whole thread on side mounted spares http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=505728

short box fender and bracket same 55-66 (pay no attention to the ''front end'' accessory)

long bed fender and bracket same 55-66

on a stock truck with side mount gm also added a 3/8'' shim over the axle to level the ride
and this bracket on the bed
since i flipped my axle i do not have the shim, i do have the bracket

my side mount bracket is also heavily modified to center the bigger wider tire in the opening and to clear my tonneau cover
i have modified my drivers mirror to go out another inch to see around the wider tire

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

canadian trucks use different numbers
here is a canadian 1300 truck fender; notice it is a passenger fender

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

Thanks !! . So in looking at these pictures , it seems that the physical dimensions (overall length and wheel opening position on the fender) is the same for short or long bed , so either fender should "bolt up" , but the main/only real difference is the placement of the tire in relation to how much it sticks above the bed rail , and i am assuming the bracket at the front of the rail , is to keep the rail from rolling down , because of the weight of the wheel/bracket on the rail , but i could without modification , "bolt on" either the short or long bed fender without issues

I ask this because it seems Short Bed spare tire fenders seem to be more plentiful than Long Bed fenders with the spare tire cutout/mount , so my chances of getting one of those would be greater than the "hope" that i can find a decently priced long bed fender/bracket which seem (to me) to be more rare

Re: Non cab gas tank and spare tire ?

you do have a point
short bed fender and bracket would fit on long bed
imo it would look 'off' but only to ogre

Well looking at your truck , yours is the short bed ,and comparing the 2 , i guess the only part that would actually "look off" would be the distance from the tire center to the bedrail is higher on the shortbed , but mainly the distance from the tire to the corner of the cab would be larger if the shortbed fender/bracket was used on a longbed , correct ??
