Steering stops (bump stop mounts) on a lowered '66?
I put 3" lowering coils on the front of my '66 C20 a while back, and cut the bump stops and steel brackets completely off of the lower control arms for clearance. Now that the rest of the truck is just about roadworthy, I have taken it on a couple of test rides lately, and noticed that the front wheels turn sharp enough to rub now. I presume this is because the spindle or steering knuckle is meant to hit that bump stop bracket when turned from "lock to lock". Is that correct?
If so, has anyone else run into this? Can I just weld a chunk of angle or tubing or something back on the arm to act as a steering stop? I guess even a picture of the stock setup in the "lock" position would help me visualize what I need to do to add some kind of stop back on there. |

I did the same thing but added a universal red bump stop. It doesn't rub, but it could be that the bump stops act as a steering stop.

My aftermarket drop spindles do hit the bump stop. I don't see why you couldn't fabricate a new stop. Check your spindles, it should be pretty clear where they make ( did make ) contact with the stop.
