Rigging up hydroboost?

My 86' gmc k2500 used to be a diesel but now it has a gas engine. I am swapping all pumps and pulleys with a chrome/machined alum kit. However I found the gasoline power steering pump has one inlet and one return while the diesel has one inlet and 2 returns. And from what I can gather, the 2nd return is for hydroboost. I am not sure if I should cap the hydroboost or tee it into the return line. I also found the line with the threaded fitting coming off the master cylinder will not thread into the back of the ps pump it's completely different. Where should I go from here?

Re: Rigging up hydroboost?

I just used a "tee" fitting to connect both returns to the pump.
The line won't fit because it has the "o' ring seal instead of the pumps flare type fitting.
Try to find a newer pump with the "O' ring type connection.
Mike.

Re: Rigging up hydroboost?

A later diesel or 1-ton gas version PS pump should bolt right in and will have 2 return fittings. If you use a "T", make sure the hydroboost uses the straight path through the "T". If you picture the T, the ps box would return through the bottom, and the hydro would go to one side of the top of the T and the return to the pump would go to the remaining port.

Re: Rigging up hydroboost?

Well the PS pump that came with my kit is a Saginaw pump. The listing i bought it from mentioned about the difference but I wasn't sure. Would an adapter like this work? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1467&ppt=C0269

Re: Rigging up hydroboost?

Well I found something out today. Both my new saginaw pump and the original diesel pump have a threaded insert on the back. I took both out and found that the one for the diesel looks exactly the same as the saginaw and actually threads into the saginaw easily. Would this work fine? Also there is a small hole insde the pump where the insert threads aswell as the tip of the insert. Should this hole be matched or does it not matter?
