Do I have a broken motor mount?
OK, so long story short, I had a lower control arm bolt unthread and throw me into a curb at about 40mph. I replaced everything I thought was damaged and I'm ready to take it to the alignment shop. But now when I shift it into gear either drive or reverse, the whole truck shakes. I've given it some gas while in gear, and it doesn't lift up or shake any worse. It has a SBC with an automatic. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks fellas -Andrew |

Re: Do I have a broken motor mount?
Watch the motor with the hood open. Place one foot on the brake and give it a little gas, if the left side of the motor raises up you have a busted mount. Hitting a curb at 40 mph can break both mounts as well as tearing the transmission mount loose. Might want to inspect the drive line as well making sure the carrier bearing didnt get tweeked. The motor will usually raise up enough to throw the transmission out of gear and the fan will contact the shroud.

Yeah it doesn't raise up, just shakes the whole truck.

Re: Do I have a broken motor mount?
Have you got underneath the truck and inspect the three mounts? Take a pry bar with you and see if either motor mount is loose, then do the same with the trans mount. Take a look at that bell housing where it bolts to the block and check for broken or cracked areas. If it's shaking the whole truck something is broken, broken loose, or bent. Might give that drive line a close inspection as well...Chock the wheels and have a competent person get in and apply the brake and put the truck in gear while you watch the motor straddling a fender. Do not use an angry wife! Might take a look at the rear axle, trailing arms, all four springs, and the panhard bar too...

Re: Do I have a broken motor mount?
Did you cut a plug wire or have one come loose due to impact? A broken motor mount will not cause the engine to run rough.
