Interior help

What are you all using to paint the door panels, dash pads and various things on the interior? Info and advice on how you prep them would be appreciated. I've seen failed attempts and I don't want that.

Use sem products

Clean with soap and water and then wipe down with lacquer thinner, to get any old paint off. Clean with soap and water again. You can use SEM or the paint from LMC. I have used the LMC paint, and it matches well with the OEM colors. I've used Buford's on my own door panels & dash. I changed my interior from maroon to charcoal.

TKCR, is that a recovered or new dash pad? Mine has some cracks so did you repair or replace with OEM or replacement? Looks nice.

That is my OEM dash pad. All I did was remove the Maroon colored paint and re-painted it charcoal. It didn't have any cracks that needed repaired. I did this this with all my plastic interior parts.

Mine has 1 small crack. Other than that it looks good.

There was someone that did a thread ( write up ) on a "do it yourself" repair for cracks. He had a few cracks and it turned out nice. Here's one and there are probably more if you do a search.

TKCR is correct. I might ad a couple things based on my experience. Sometimes the old paint or dye might not come off with lacquer thinner. I have found that cheap Walmart brand Brake Cleaner works well too.

BE VERY CAREFUL! Do not get it on anything besides what you want stripped or you will not be happy. I stripped door panels and dash pad with the cleaner and gently scuffing with Scotch Brite.

Once everything is stripped, clean everything with Dawn soap multiple times to ensure a very oil free surface. Proper prep and thorough cleaning is absolutely critical to proper adhesion.

Once cleaned spray with light coats of Bulldog adhesion promoter. Let dry and spray with light coats of SEM dye. Dont rush the color coats. Several light coats will get good results.

I also built a small area in the garage, that I hung plastic all around it. This helped to keep dust off your parts, while painting. Especially when it came to the dash.
