Bed rail removal?

Before I start tearing into it, can someone tell me how this side rail is attached and best way to remove from the bed. There is a thick layer of some kind of sealant but surely that isn't what's holding it on?

Re: Bed rail removal?

It was spot welded from the factory. A wire wheel on a drill or die grinder is your friend to help you locate them. Drill out and reattach new ones either by spot welding again or as I am doing, drill and replace using polished stainless bolts. The bolts extend into the stake pockets and in the wheel well where the other end will not be visible.

Re: Bed rail removal?

Hopefully a previous owner was just doing his thing to keep moisture from getting behind the rail. As they said some serious cleaning will expose the spot welds so you can cut them out with a spot weld cutter.
