83 fuel tank leak question
like always i wait until the last minute .. put the blade on because we have snow coming . filled with fuel . truck sat all summer and now have a leak . I have a plastic tank on a bare frame that I can get to easily . It only has two lines off the top . I would guess supply and return ? The one on the truck now has three lines . Can I make the plastic tank work ? Have a couple drives to blade and not sure if it will run off the passenger tank .
Thank you |

Re: 83 fuel tank leak question
The lines are part of the sender?? Use your old sender in the new tank?? Welcome aboard!!

Re: 83 fuel tank leak question
Check the filler hose. Might be leaking since you noticed during a fill up

Re: 83 fuel tank leak question
low 69 - I could not be that lucky ! The filler end and neck area look dry . The front end ,under cab , is where it seems to be leaking . I would use the passenger tank for time being except when I push the switch the gauge goes completely past full and off the chart . there may be couple gallons , but not full . any idea what that issue may be ?
Thank you |

Re: 83 fuel tank leak question
My 87 (tbi) wouldn't run off the passenger tank. Also, the gauge did just as you described. A selector valve, sending unit, and fuel pump later it's fixed. I think the funny readings is the ground. It could be the connection at the frame. My sending units literally rusted in two. I don't know how to advise you other than tear into it and see what you find.
Also, I haven't liked other poly tanks. I'd get a metal one.

Re: 83 fuel tank leak question
The carb and diesel ground is a pigtail with ring terminal on the frame end and a 1/4" female disconnect that plugs into a blade on the sender or the tank ring around it.
