lowering a 77 c10 step side

hi guys, once again I venture to the square body side for info. guy hit me up about lowering a 77 c10 stepper. wants to know how low he can go without C-notch. wants it low, like really low, but driveable. Does not want to do bags. So now I'm here asking the experts. What do you guys think? Probably wants a static drop.

Thanks

Lowest you can go is an axle flip (6" drop). You might be able to get away with an additional 1" shackle, but you'd have to never carry anything in the bed, have stiff springs and shocks, and still hit the bumpstop all the time. I'd say safe static drop would be 6" with no to very minimal weight in the bed. My stepside linked in my signature has a 6" axle flip in the rear with no C-notch.

So from your build thread (which is amazing) looks like you lowered it 6" in the back and 3.5 in the front to get what looks like a static drop. Is that correct?

Re: lowering a 77 c10 step side

Thanks! My truck is lowered approximately 4.5"/6". And yes, it is a static drop. I used Early Classic 2.5" drop spindles and cut one full coil out of low mile stock springs, which is about 2" also. In the rear, all the springs, hangers, etc are stock, with a McGaughys axle flip kit. I did remove the overloads but that is not really necessary with a flip kit as it will not modify height at all.

Re: lowering a 77 c10 step side

Just buy a $10 pair of axle saddles from tractor supply and unbolt the rear flip it over on top of the leaf springs set the pinion angle and weld them on was cheaper and much stronger than those chincy flipkits in my opinion. Ive done a flip kit with a drop shackle but installed airshocks because i only had like 1/2 of clearance but wanted it low when i wasent hauling anything. Didnt ride to bad still hit the frame alot tho but it was just a beater.
