78 3 on the tree issue

The shifter is really loose and hard to find the gears. I dont think it is a rod bushing issue as you can wiggle the bottom linkage arm itself and has about a 1/2 " of play at the column.

Most searches bring up swaps but seen nothing on repairs except a replacement bushing. Thoughts?

It is worn out. The collar rides on a bushing that gets worn, and the lugs on the column get worn. This is very common on 3OTT with age, every one I have seen with over 100k does this. Best bet is to find a better one or at least one similar and take it apart and rebuild it. haven't done one myself in years, seems someone did a thread on it a couple years ago.
