2013 5.3 swap in a 2008 Yukon now high idle issues

So this weekend I helped my buddie swap out a high mileage 5.3 from his 2008 Yukon with a 5.3 from a 2013, everything looked identical and plugged in the same except the new motor had an additional sensor below the water pump in the middle of the timing cover near the sensor below the water pump to the left if facing the motor. Well it starts and idles a little high in park around 1100-1200 but soon as you give it any gas it revs up and then revs up to 4-5000 and just stays until you turn the key back off.. We tried both throttle bodies and everything seems to be hooked up fine and no leaks but not sure on this. Sorry for the long winded question
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

2 different motors sounds like you installed a motor with the vvt/cylinder deactivation which is not compatible with each other also i think the reluctor wheels are different inside the motor

Re: 2013 5.3 swap in a 2008 Yukon now high idle issues

could you post a picture of the 2?

sounds to me like the 2013 is a VVT engine, the 08 was not.

sensor on the front cover, facing the right (looking from front) is the cam sensor. That would be same on both.
If the new engine has a sensor facing the other way, it would be for the cam phaser oil control valve (=VVT)

might be a little late, but to rectify it you could have changed the cam for a non VVT one. I believe the engine would run just fine that way then, with the 08 computer and tune file that's on it now

reluctor is same 58x
you need to change cam, front timing sprocket on the cam
both engines should have the cylinder deactivation (AFM)...so you can leave lifters in there if you want.
it would probably run with that same VVT cam, but not as well as it should...since that cam is cut to use the advance/retard functions the VVT gives it.
can't say I've ever tried that...to be sure how it would run.
