Cross member swap?
I am going to put a 1978 front cross member under my 69 GMC. I know it will bolt up to the frame but what is needed to hook up the steering. will the 69s power steering box work with the 78s suspension? Or should I use the 78s box? and will it bolt up to the 69 frame?

the p/s box on the 69 and 78 are exactly the same... use whichever box you want..... also you will need to redrill two new holes in the frame for the crossmember.... easy

I swapped crossmember from an '84 onto my '69. I had to drill one hole on each side, and enlarge one hole on each side...easy. I used the p/s box from the '84, as well as pulled all brake lines, porportioning valve to swap the brakes over from the non-power drums. It was an easy swap.
I did find when adding the '69 p/booster & master cylinder, that the '84 brake line fittings going to the m/cyclinder were reversed from the '69 m/cylinder. I bought adapter fittings to correct this. It works fine. ------------------ ken OK '69 C/10 LWBowtie maybe a daily driver, some day... "Life is not too short, it's just that eternity is so long." yeah, and 81-up boxes have O ring style p/s hose ends, unlike the '68-80 common flared style hoses.
