Noise and heat reduction solutions?
Ive reached a point in my build where installing noise and heat comes to mind. I have read about the vibration reduction products that can be snipped up and added to the floor and doors and such, and also the MLV products and cell foam products to use as a de coupling in between.
I am planning to carpet but not the kick panels so I am tempted to get some of this Noico stuff and at least apply it to the floor and inside the doors. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=AXJ5VNOZL83GP But since there is so much exposed metal in the roof , rear wall, dash and doors I wonder if its even worth the MLV and de coupling products. Anyone gone through this and found a solution that actually made a difference? |

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
I used Second Skin damplifier (it comes black now) many years ago. I installed pieces up the firewall, behind the dash, and inside the doors. I am also using their MLV product under the carpet. For the outside, I sprayed 3M Body Schutz coating.
The roof would be a great place to address...possibly a partial headliner with a damplifier under it.

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
I removed my lid, undercoated it heavy then when reinstalling it put insulation in it. the styrofoam stuff. keeps hot chocolate warm til 212 degrees so without global warming increasing to temps over that here on the east coast, I am good.

Good to know thx!

For me I didnt have any sound deadener before just rust, no stereo even, and no AC so adding just the vibration dampening stuff will be an upgrade as I add those missing components this time. I have read that until the decoupling cell foam and the MLV is added to the vibration reduction stuff that the ride doesnt really get that silent. Good to hear from others on the results. |

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
I used Noico 80 mill. Want to say it was 60 bucks. Covered the floor, and firewall and there is enough to do it again.
The back panel behind the tank is Dynamat as are the outer 1/2 up on the doors. Inner - upper inner door halves are Noico. Lower inner door halves are sprayed with undercoat. I have been going around the truck as I take things apart and knocking (with my knuckles) on the different areas to see it they "ring". I then knock on them again after treating them to try and see the difference. One area that really surprised me was in the door frame that holds the window felts. When I knocked on those, they rang much more than I thought they would. I cut small strips of the Noico and pressed them in where the felt wouldn't touch it. The before - after difference is amazing. I agree that the roof section would be a great place to install a deadener. Even shutting the doors makes it ring pretty good.

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
I dont have A/C in my truck yet. hoping to afford it someday. 3 years ago I was able to afford the $4,000 stereo system I installed in the truck and the Fat Mat is so amazing. trust me the system is clean and loud and when you shut the doors and roll up the windows you can hardly hear it from outside the truck.

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
'63GENIII- I was just wondering about this the other day. You mentioned you put some sound deadener on the inside of your doors? Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't that stuff eventually become wet from rain or washing your truck and retain moisture?

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
Most likely will get wet. It is the same type of material thats used to seal around house window and doors. Like a butyl rubber tar kind of mastic. I've had some in the doors for 5 years now and haven't noticed any negative affect from moisture.

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
Yeah, that's a good point. I went with Second Skin because at the time, they were one of the few that offered a Butyl-based damper material rather than the tar-based. I had installed a lot of the tar-based products at the request of customers prior, and I just could no longer take the smell. Either stands up well to inclement weather conditions. In my case, installing the dampening material inside the doors was just as important as applying it to the floors.

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
This was a big concern of mine when I did my 63.
I rolled the bottom of the cab,the firewall, the floor board, the bacl splash, and the interior firewall with Herculiner. Then I used a sound deadener that a member on here was selling on the interior and the doors. After that I put down padding and then carpet.I also used the civic door moulding and bought new window felt.. It's been a major improvement. |

Re: Noise and heat reduction solutions?
Oh the irony that the maker of those sweet a/c vents doesn't have a/c in his truck. I get it though.... I'm a swimming pool service guy with no pool of his own. As for sealing the cab, if only I could find a high quality kick panel vent seal. That thing always bleeds in air no matter what I do. I don't want to block it off because it is useful but I am considering it more and more. My a/c kit already necessitated blocking the passenger's side but I couldn't really reach it from behind the wheel anyhow.
