Like the others have said check the obvious things first.

There are no ground wires that go all the way to the front, not in the stock configuration anyway. Brake and tail light bulbs ground through the light housings, to the bed, to the frame, to the engine, (which has rubber mounts), to the battery. The problem is after 40+ years stuff gets rusty, the sockets don't ground to the bulb anymore, the housings don't ground to the bed anymore, the bed doesn't ground to the frame anymore, and the frame doesn't ground to the engine anymore. On top of that most of the stock ground straps have been removed or broken off. Install ground straps using this thread as a guide....
