Short-shifters?
I was just wondering what the options are for shorting the throw on my shifter. I've got a 83 with a 3 speed and a granny gear.
Thanks |

Re: Short-shifters?
Exactly. Your choices are to swap in a different trans. I suggest an M20/M21/M22 because that's what I have haha.

Re: Short-shifters?
A later model sm465 came with an aluminum shift cover, and was redesigned to shorten the throw of the shifter. With that said, it also moved the shifter back. Those covers are pretty hard to come by though!

Re: Short-shifters?
First question - why?
If you want to speed shift this box, you will never be happy. These are all about slow easy shifts, gentle clutching to get big loads rolling smoothly. They are not a racing trans. If you're wanting to race it, swap trans. If the issue is the shifter is too far away in certain gears, the stick can be bent to a closer position. If the issue is that the shifter is too close in one gear and too far in another, then unfortunately the seat height really needs to be changed. If you really want to shorten the throw cut the shifter down. But unless you lower the seat, or have super long arms, your back will soon be unhappy from driving hunched over.
