Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
I was hoping to be able to modify the 72 core support to work with a 67 front clip. I have heard it can be done, but not sure what needs to be done to the headlight area. Do they need to go out or in, and by how much?
I am not going for original, but more of a ratty style so having welds where they are not normally doesn't bother my build. Thanks in advance.

Re: Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
I have never heard of anyone doing it as it is more than just the headlights that would not work. More of a pita than it is worth honestly. The frame mounts are different the way the fender mounts is different and the hood latch is different

It's doable. Here is an older thread on it with some good info.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=568729 LockDoc

Re: Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
The frame mounts are the same, just different rubber mounts and bolts between the years.
The hood latch mount point is the same. The later core support is missing the lower weldnuts for the 68 splash shield but are marked for where they whould be installed. Some of the later core supports are identical under the headlight buckets, most are not. In locdoc's posted thread you will see a poor way of modifying the core support. The better way to do it is to cut out the 68 headlight hole with the mounting points and weld it over the 69-72 headlight hole, you need to do it that way because the 68 headlight bucket slides in that round flanged hole to adjust properly, the rounded hole also gives proper headlight depth from core support to headlight bezels. If you use the 69-72 oblong, non-flanged headlight hole the bucket doesn't have the proper support. |

Re: Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
Thanks, great info.
The reason I was asking, other than I have never attempted anything like this, is that when I purchased a bunch of parts from a guy who was getting out of the truck scene, said it was easy, just change out the headlight buckets, and he has done lots, since that part is hard to find locally so in used condition. And those instructions usually involve more than that. Can you explain what is different for the frame mounts? I plan on using a 67 cab and front clip on a 72 frame with 72 box. Which rubber/poly kit is required? Will I need to buy seperatly for those compliments? Will it be different if I use a 72 core support rather than the correct 67?

Re: Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
The 67-8 frame mounts for the core support sit a little lower on the frame than the later model ones, use core support mounts to match the frame.

Re: Can I use a 72 core support with 67 clip
I would be interested in adding a splash shield if I am thinking of the right part. Can you show a pic of this area or part installed?
The later core support is missing the lower weldnuts for the 68 splash shield but are marked for where they whould be installed. Quote?? More info needed, Thank You! |
