Wrangler 5 or 6 speed with np205 transfer case and chevy 350? 4x4
Just wondering if anybody has ever tried swapping in a 5 or 6 speed manual trans out of a wrangler and bolting it to a chevy 350, np205 transfer case combo. How big of a job is it. Had a wrangler once and they seemed like pretty nice transmissions really smooth compared to my sm465

I think a Nv3500 5speed out of an 88+ GM truck would be an easier/cheaper swap. Some of the early one were known to be weak, but they aren't as fragile as people make them out to be. Over the years they got better, so the later the unit the more improvements to the design/durability it will have. Any 32spline round pattern GM transfer case will bolt on without any modifications/adapters.
The 3500 drives nice and has good gear splits for daily driving. A Nv4500 would also be a good swap. May be harder to come by as they are more sought after. It is basically a 465 with an overdrive though as far as gear splits go. |
