Exhaust location
I'm going to be running a soft topper for the 1975 Blazer and I'm wondering about exhaust fumes with the kids in the truck. Recently I've been carrying long chunks of timber and driving with the rear window down. I've notice that exhaust fumes tend to come into the truck when this happens, no matter whether the front windows are up or down.
The exhaust system was fitted by a generic muffler shop, NOT a Blazer specialist, so are they in the wrong position?? (see picture) .....ORRR is this just something that happens with the rear window down and a hard top??? .....ORRR is it just something I have to get used to with a soft topper( I'll probably run safari style with no sides). |

Re: Exhaust location
Mine comes out, roughly, in the same location. And I also get exhaust smell if rear window is rolled down. Mine comes out more like a 90-95 degree bend, vs yours around 110-115 degrees. Either way, kinda the same result.

Re: Exhaust location
Anyone know if you also get this with safari roof - that will be a deal stopper for wife n kids and somewhat screws up a major reason why I got the thing in the first place.

Re: Exhaust location
Mine will be at the muffler shop soon-I'll be following this thread! Don't want fumes and I think they were thinking of duals in the same basic location on each side. Mine will only have a hard top which will be on and off at times. Is this just a problem when the rear window is down? Any problems when full convertible-top down?
Please chime in for correct non-fume location-Thanks

Re: Exhaust location
I drove it with top completely off and never had the fumes issue then. I suspect it's due to airflow over the hard top which comes back towards the rear and in when there is no rear windows to stop it. Not sure what happens with no rear Or side.

Re: Exhaust location
OK-Thanks. Nice looking Blazer BTW-at least what I can see of it. Care to post a full picture? I'd like to see what mine may look like some day......Love the color combo but I already have an orange and white '72 C10 so I'm thinking two tone blue and white.

Re: Exhaust location
You'll be OK. Even when these were new and bone-stock, you'd get exhaust fumes in the cab if you drove around with the back glass down. It's just the nature of pushing a brick through the air, you get a huge low pressure area behind the truck that sucks in air passing around the truck, so if you let the back glass down it gets sucked into the cab.
This is not an issue with the top off and I'd be really surprised if it were an issue with a soft top on but back and sides rolled up. Don't sweat it until you try it, I think you'll be fine. |
