what all tools are needed to r&r dismantle, and reassemble a 72 auto tilt column, who sells rebuild parts also.

I did mine without any special tools. It was a little difficult. I made a pin puller with a small bolt and socket. This is the tool that simplifies it.

No special tools other than the improvised pin puller mentioned by Chief above when I did mine. The most difficult for me was both understanding how the column cover(sheetmetal cylinder all the levers come thru) comes off and was attached. Not having that obsolete puller made it a bear,but still doable.

It's the most informative thread on taking it apart and putting the column together. In one of the posts I wrote the steps for disassembly and assembly and after I wrote it I verified them by assembling one. The steps are very important because the column is difficult to take down and assemble and if you miss one you may have to take it back apart.

The pivot pin tool shown above should be used since it is very cheap and durable, the tool can break and I have broken many of them, so be easy with it. You can also use a properly sized screw and socket for spacer, or use a slide hammer with the proper screw.

Other helpful tools are from Kent Moore
J-22551, Shift tube puller
J-22549, Shift tube installer
J-22598, turn signal switch cover puller, this tool is the one that is most helpful, the cover is easily damaged and sometimes can be very difficult to remove without damage. If you miss an assembly step and have to take it apart again you risk damaging the cover again.

There is also a special socket for the nut on the center shaft, in the thread I explain a snap on socket that will get the nut off.

The socket is Kent Moore, J-22599

There are 2 sets of bearings in the upper pivot housing, neither are available. But those bearings are virtually always in good sable condition and don't need to be replaced.
The lower bearing seems to be available everywhere and seems to fit many GM cars and trucks.
