67 K10 292 Project
I recently bought a 1967 K10, with a 292 6cyl inline. My front axle is a DANA 44 straight axle, that is where the knowledge seems to stop. I can't seem to find parts and LMC, other Chevy places can't even identify the axle. The axle does not have the typical knuckle, it is more like a ball and socket. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Might go to general truck section, to 4x4 off roading for some experts in that one.

You have what most people call a "closed knuckle" Dana 44. Period correct OEM material. Parts are readily available. Kingpin bearing and races at NAPA, etc. What parts are you looking for?

dana spicer corporation still supports this axle too. check out thier website.
and they support your drive shafts too. and parts manuals and service manuals are available online too. It is the origonal axle to your truck and is much stronger than the open knuckle axle. your turning radius will be greater and I'm not sure but disc brkes will not fit but it is a very good axle and origonal to your vehicle. those closed knuckles have small pipe plugs on the rear of the knuckle facing out towards the rear of the knuckle. dont forget to fill them with 140 wt gear oil. one on each side. I love my mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, expensive...yes.... but so is the cost of rebuilding a front differential. the differential housing itself gets serviced separately with 90 wt. dont just fill the differential with oil. pull the cover and clean it out then seal it back up and fill it with fresh 90 wt. many people just fill it up but if the axle has not been serviced or has been submerged in water the oil can go bad. dont just fill it up. pop off the cover and clean it out. oil aint cheap, synthetic aint either but niether is a rebuild |
