Hub help!

What hub is this? I literally melted one on my 72 Blazer and need a replacement quick, as this is my daily driver. What are directr eplacements? Any help is appreciated.

I have one that has plier marks that I will sell but the last one I melted was because the wheel bearing went out.

Plier marks would match the one that hasn't burned up. PM your price.

I kinda figured a bearing is out: not a lot of hot grease leaked out. I want to have it all apart just once, so I want to line up the pieces before hand.

What are the chances of just getting the knob?

I will dig it out tonight and look at it and give you a price. You may want to check the spindle if it got that hot the race may have welded itself to the spindle that's what happened to mine. The only reason I say that is I have a couple of spindles also and it would save you some shipping.

Indeed! I plan to tear it down tonight and see what I'm working with. New bearings for sure, and at least a knob, we'll see what else I need.

You might also want to check your brake caliper and hose. I have had it drag just enough to get it hot enough to do that kind of damage but not lock the caliper up.

Got the cap, knob, and snap ring off. Now what?!

You need to jack the vechicle up and rotate the tire to see if the bearings are noise or a stuck brake caliper also a picture of the style of the internals of you hub would help.

You are going to need a few tools if you plan to go any deeper:
1. pick tool
2. small pocket flat blade screwdriver
3. 4 pronged hub socket tool or good heavy duty flat blade and hammer.
4. snap ring pliers
5. 3/8 allen wrench or socket for brake caliper

Went and got the 4-prong socket: what does it fit to?

there is a nut down inside the spindle that fits that 4 prong.

You must remove the snap ring from the shaft and pull out the rest of the lock-out.

Here is what I have 5 for the lockout and 8 for shipping so 13 shipped let me know if interested. Like I said if you need more stuff let me know I may have it and it will save some shipping.

1. 3/8 allen to remove the caliper bolts.

2. Pull the snap ring off the end of the stub shaft than remove the snap ring that holds the locking hub in to your rotor than remove the locking hub assembly.

3. There are 2 nuts and a lock ring inside. The 4 pronged socket is to remove the first nut than use a pick tool to remove the lock ring than use the socket again to remove last nut.

4. The rotor can be removed.

Do all this if you want to get to the wheel bearing if you want to just replace the locking hub for now do step 2 only.

Stopped at the inner nut. Need to borry an impact gun. Outer nut wasn't too tight. Outer race came out before outer nut. Destroyed the stub snap ring getting it off.

If I could wait, I'd go for that knob. Thanks, though. I got some Mile Markers locally, so I'll go with those, which means I'll have a complete oem hub as a spare.

Got it all apart. Everything seems ok, apart from the melted dial.
New bearings, seal, grease, and hubs tomorrow.

Went together quickly and smoothly. New seal, bearings, hub, and pads. I even painted the wheel. Thanks or all the help!

Those are the old school spicers they never gave problems to bad you could not find a new dial and save it. Looks good.

I'm on the fence about the dial offered. I may pick it up, if still availabe, in a few weeks, just to have. I'm liking the new Mile Markers, though. Also, hated to replace the old Tmken bearings... i just don't know how to tell if they are still good

You did all that work. Why didn't you just replace the old Timken bearings with a new set of Timkens? I personally hate seeing "China" written on any of my stuff. You never know what your getting with that crap.
