Truck stalls when accellerating
Truck stalls when I'm accellerating, idles great when in park. It will go dead when I come to a stop in gear and warm. I have the stock 87 350 duel port throttle body injection. Gears shift great and truck rides fine. The guy I bought it from said fuel filter and pump were replaced recently, the plugs and wires were replaced almost 4 years ago. When accellerating it has that pause like it's chocking and I can hear a popping noise under the hood. Any advice is appreciated, this is my first attempt at fixing a truck up so dumb it down for me lol.

Re: Truck stalls when accellerating
Welcome to the club. I'm hacking my way through my project also so my suggestion will probably be trumped by one of the experts here.
My truck is a carbed 305 and I was having a similar issue and mine was timing related. Good luck

Re: Truck stalls when accellerating
the popping under acceleration makes me think its running lean or has a timing issue.
I would replace the cap/rotor - I had this happen to me a few years ago on my TBI 350 and chased it with lots of things. Finally I replaced the cap/rotor and that was the problem. Also I would replace your vacuum lines as well, they could be shot. |

Re: Truck stalls when accellerating
My concern would be that some how the plug wires were crossed, and need to be double checked, it happens allot, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and yes it will run, youtube video can show you how to line rotor up, and start from there, also plug wire being bad, and only firing every once in awhile, also with air breather off check to make sure that both sides of the injectors are spraying, other than that-TBi are pretty simple, and as stated in other post - cap and rotor, and timing cause issues, (when replacing the rotor you can go into even better detail and see if the number one piston is up, and the rotor is in the number 1 position under the cap, more advanced,) . here is picture of cap and where the wires should go, also link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBxgDbvoeqE only saying this to give you something to check,

Re: Truck stalls when accellerating
I would recommend some basic tools for troubleshooting so you can go about it methodically.
Pick up a timing light, vacuum gauge, and a fuel pressure gauge you can test pressure with. With these, you can determine, are you getting enough fuel, all the time, and is the timing appropriate.
