Will this 4L60E work behind 5.3 LS?

Other then I know it has a 14 bolt Bell housing I have absolutely no idea what this transmission came out of. Will this transmission work behind my stock 5.3 LS out of a 2002 Tahoe? Does the starter opening a look right? Is there a difference with that? I'm swapping it into a '67 C10 with an aftermarket harness and ECM.

Thanks,

Steve weim55 Colorado

If I had absolutely no idea (history, mileage, donor vehicle, etc, etc) what it came out of I wouldn't even consider installing it..but that's me..what are you referring to by 14 bolt bellhousing ?

Looks like there is no top bolt hole in the bellhousing. And there is no top right bolt hole (where the dipstick bolts) in LS blocks, this would probably be reason enough not to use it, thats a pretty large gap with no bolts.

Also the fact that it has this type of dipstick says it is not from an LS donor most likely.

If that bellhousing is removeable its most likely 97+ 4l60e. Based on the missing bolt hole and length of the dipstick (hard to tell but it looks like the "up and over" extra long stick), my guess would be a non-LS service truck like a van or something from the medium duty line.

There is a hole behind the dipstick, it's just hard to see. I'm not worried about running five bolts instead of six. The biggest things that concern me is Clarence for the starter on the bell housing and the electronic connection at the transmission. 2 Wheel Drive 4L60s are very uncommon here in Colorado, so if this is the candidate I'd like to try it.

Hopefully there will be the ID tag on the case... If not there will be I numbers stamped into the case, on the passenger side of the flange where the pan bolts on or underneath the motor mount area. They will tell you type, year of manufacture, production location and serial number.

It's a 4l60e as used behind an I6 Trailblazer engine.

Yes, if you remove the Trailblazer bellhousing and replace it with a one from a v8 application.

That is a 298mm 4L60E from behind a 4.3L, 5.0L, or 5.7L gen 1 engine.

Of course, you're correct. I hope my earlier response didn't cause too much confusion for the OP.
