D52 Brake Pad Recommendations? Want The Most Bite
I'm fairly certain that this is a loaded question. But for street use on a 3600lb pickup, what pads have you used that transformed bite/pedal feel?
I have new dual 2.0" piston Wilwood calipers with stainless hoses and the existing vacuum booster from the factory boosted discs. My new dual master cylinder is of the 1 1/8" large port variety. My tires are 235/75R15, and I'm lowered 2" (not sure that last bit matters for bite and pedal feel). I'm not concerned about brake dust, as I'm running 15" steel wheels with dog dishes. I've read that dust isn't much of an issue with the new high-performance compounds, anyway. I just want to be able to stand the truck on its nose, without standing on the pedal with both feet. |

Rob from No LImit did a test run on front pads. Try and search his threads, I believe he liked Hawk pads. I don't remember the details though as some stop well but we're noisy ect...

Re: D52 Brake Pad Recommendations? Want The Most Bite
I had Hawk pads on mine for a couple years. They most certainly "bite" like crazy, but keep in mind, they're noisy as well as dusty. Wilwood does offer different compounds also. I'm considering going to a slightly more aggressive pad with my new Wilwood setup.

You might also want to check your rear drums if so equipped. You'd be surprised how much difference in pedal feel can be had by tightening up the rear drums. I've been running EBC Yellow pads and EBC rotors on my daily driver Tacoma and they made a world of difference in pedal feel and bite. I can stand on them way more times in a row before getting a hint of fade which was another area I wanted to address. I do need to be careful when they're cold though, first thing in the morning isn't bad. But go bombing down the interstate without touching the brakes for a few hours and it's surprising how little they do, especially if you're late braking that off ramp. EBC Green offered modest improvements in allmareas without the decrease in cold performance but just wasn't agressive enough. Hope this helps. |
