Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Well I finally got my parts bought for the 2wd part. I got the front end off and ready and ready for some cutting. I am going to clip the frame. I know a lot of people don't like that idea but oh well it's mine and I'm completely comfortable with it. I can't wait to see it sitting back on the ground. I don't plan on selling it and if I have to someone will know it isn't right anyway since they didn't build a 2wd jimmy in 87. Oh well that's not the point just wanted to give an update to anyone interested.

Yea I'm gonna cut right around the front cab/body mount. That way I know where exactly to cut both frames and won't have to worry something being off as both frames are the same lengths and shapes from there forward.

Lots of guys here do them that way, you won't get any grief about it.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

I just knew when I was looking at the 67-72 section a lot there always seemed to be someone talking about it when someone would cut down a shortbed and how it ruined the frame and that it was so unsafe but it didn't bother me on those trucks either. My dad has done framework on vehicles since before I was born and I'm 36 now. We have done front sections, rear sections, whole rails, frame horns, and just partials for as long as I was old enough to help. I plan on welding the crap out of it plus putting a bolted on plate that will be welded also.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Hopefully I can get some parts cleaned up this weekend and with a couple days off this week I can get some running gear back up under the blazer.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Just bought it Thursday, pretty straight old car, insides are trashed, no motor or trans but it's got a title and I gave $400 for it so I'm happy. Plan is to build a stress reliever an 1/8th mile at a time after I get my jimmy running down the road.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Not much progress to speak of, have worked a lot of weekends or been busy. I finally got everything welded up the way I want it and getting ready to paint the frame and then time to put my bbc in it and get it to run. I picked up a core support with all the lights and an uncut harness and a gmc grill from a 90 burb to go on it for 50 bucks the other day so that was some new motivation.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Haven't updated in a long time. Mostly because I've been way too busy doing other stuff and only worked on the blazer a little at a time and enbarrassed by the lack of progress I've made. But I do have it running now and most parts back on it as far as the outside goes. Here's a pic from today so everyone can see how it looks now.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Great to see this truck again, seriously I was thinking of it recently and wondered what happened to it. I couldn't remember whose it was, just the pic of the body on stacks of bricks.lol Good to see it's still around and getting the love. Don't sweat the slow progress, mine are the same way.

Re: New to me 87 jimmy soon to be 2wd

Thanks for the comments, hopefully I'll be able to update a little more often. Getting ready to start the few small floor repairs I need to make and put a passenger rocker on it. Then need to try and get my seats figured out.
