spot welds

If you dont know where the spot welds are - do what - just drill and drill and drill till it pops i guess ? This is the column/brake support behind cluster

Since the welds are indented slightly, sand the area a bit and they should show themselves.

that support is also spot welded to the underside of the cowl and the firewall. really nice place to get to with a drill too. don't ask me how I know.
I use the "sand it first" trick and also an old 1" wide putty knife that is sharpened on the edge. I use a hammer to get the knife between the 2 pieces of steel that are spot welded and then hammer it along until it stops when butted up against a spot weld. kinda hard to do in this scenario though because of access. maybe a small pry bar?

Yeah
Really makes me wonder if there wasnt a better way to keep it in place and drill and fab something in place for the brake pedal and booster support ....
guessing not though as most seem to do it this way

As I remember it was removed but could have easily been done in the dash. It should have a plate on the firewall where the master bolts to.

Just trace the opening onto cardboard , cut out the ends and drill a hole where you want the pedal to swing. Grab a pedal assembly from the recyclers and your good to go

Take a look at the spot weld drill bits at Harbor Freight. Not the best but they are cheap.
With care you can probably drill 50 or so spot welds loose before they die. For the money, that's not too bad.

Well. A few more weeks and not much done. Got to get moving.
Got it out fairly easy in the end. A little bit of spot weld but mainly just prying.

Put the S10 bracket in place - but dont like either the brake pedal position, height or the amount of cutting Id need to do to make it half decent.

i just test fitted a 1991 silverado under the dash of my 51 and it looks pretty dang close. i may have to separate the upper part and cut it down a hair but the part that goes to the firewall and the two studs facing downward are pretty much in the right location.

i wonder if the fullsize bracket would work better then the s10, that one just looks way longer
