Want to Swap to a Bench in 88 Suburban
been looking at seat threads trying to find a bit of information on bench seats.
i see all kinds of pick-up seat info out there but not suburban seat info. i don't know if it's a bad idea to swap a folding truck seat into a suburban. my main concern is if it will hold up in a crash since it doesn't have the cab rear wall behind it. the suburban seats are rigid, right? this may seem silly to some of you. anyways, i want a bench and I'm swimming in a sea of truck benches but I'm having a hard time locating a good suburban bench. i am betting a 1 ton would have the same seat i want... i know it sounds dumb but please humor me. new to my GMC. thanks! |

Re: Want to Swap to a Bench in 88 Suburban
They are pretty much the same, other than one is fixed and the other tilts.
These pics are of a truck seat frame. It only uses one bolt on the sides, so it allows the seat back to tilt. In the first pic, this is the hole that is used for the bolt that the seat back will rest on, as you can see in the last photo. And I should mention, the the seat bottom frame is the same, on the truck & suburban.

Re: Want to Swap to a Bench in 88 Suburban
Now for the suburban frame. The first pic shows that you will use this top hole and the bottom hole for 2 bolts that will mount the seat back. Of course, since two bolts are used, the seat back will not be able to tilt. The second pic shows the seat back, notice how it has two holes for the bolts. The truck doesn't have that, this is the difference between the truck & the suburban.

The tracks are slightly different also. The truck tracks can be used, and vise versa, they just have to be bent slightly for the mounting tabs to line up to the floor.
Pic # 1 & 2 are suburban Pic # 3 & 4 are truck
