Upgrades In Proper Order...

I'm starting this thread because I sometimes lose direction and purpose.

I will continue to update this thread with links to threads that address these more important matters.

Feel free to post comments, links, and threads that you feel should be top priority, and I'll try to keep things updated.

I'll start with a rough draft and dial it in as this thread grows.

Reliable Stopping and Tight Steering should be Top Priority.

Brakes: (E-Brake, Split Brake Lines, Power, Discs)
Steering: (Gear Box, Linkage, Tie-Rods, Ball Joints, Alignment, Caster, etc.)

1. Safety First

2. HOW TO: Split the Brake Lines

3. Make It Handle

Agreed, I would suggest safety would be 1,2 & 3!

Great to make this a stickie also!

50 plus year old trucks have crappy wiring, and trust me, an electrical fire will end your truck in a most horrible way.

Brakes and suspension will park your truck if they go bad, most of the time they go bad to the point you can't drive it until you fix it. In other words it is not a surprise if you are even slightly paying attention, however faulty electrical issues rarely show themselves until the smoke appears.

Re: Upgrades In Proper Order...

My truck has several upgrades. A bigger aluminum radiator (it was the cheapest), radial tires (would prefer 7.00x15 bias plys, but it had decent tires on it when I bought it). Better outside mirrors. Baby moon hubcaps. Polyurethane body mounts.
A bigger engine (250 instead of 230).
Other than that, still pretty much stock.

Right after
Brakes
Steering
Electrical
I would strongly recommend seat belts. Even simple lap belts would be better than nothing. I put lap belts in my 63 and 3 point seat belts in my 65.
Here's my contribution.

I forgot about that. Especially the Ammeter. That's where my 65 caught fire back in 85. Good thing my grandma gave me a V8 juice drink for the trip. That's what I used to put the fire out.

Fortunately, my 64-3/4 came from the factory with 2016 American Autowire wiring.

I think there was either a pharmaceutical issue then or a medicine issue now in that other situation.
