Can I clean my fan clutch in a parts washer without damaging it?

I think I would keep the solvent off the seal where the shaft comes into the clutch itself. Otherwise it is a sealed unit. I usually clean them by spraying some brake clean on the front spring. The bi-metallic spring is what engages the clutch, when that is dirty it doesn't work properly

Yes, if it has any affect at all its bad already. Make sure it feels like there is resistance internally and there is no play on the shaft.

And it should be a lot of resistance. If you spin it, it should not make a full rotation.
