Damaged driver's side rotor - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey all

The truck has been squeaking when I go to stop, so I pulled my front wheels off to check it out. My driver's side rotor has a nasty little canyon in it that starts about an inch from the edge of the rotor and is about an inch deep with varying depths from just a minor ridge to one being nearly a 1/8 inch deep. On the other side, it looks like the pad is only rubbing on the outside and very inside of the rotor, becuase the middle of the rotor isn't clean at all.

The inner faces of both rotors look just fine, and while gouged, the driver's side rotor is shiney all the way around, with the pad being shaped to the rotor.

What would cause my squeaking here?

the lack of brake pads will do it. i'd put a $20 bill on it that there isnt much pad left at all, or the pads are new. sounds like you need to replace your rotors and brake pads. while you're at it, clean your wheel bearings, inspect them for wear, and replace them if need be. repack them, and put it all back together.
