Squeak in the front end
There is a squeak that is like a fluttering chirp in my front end somewhere. It happens only when the compression of the engine is slowing the truck down, and my foot is off the gas. If i give any gas at all, it stops, and if I put it in neutral it also stops.
From what i can tell, its not in the dash.. not anything i can reach and hold secure. I cant reproduce the sound in any way other than driving. I did try to clean underneath the truck with degreaser.. around the trans and brake area Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Re: Squeak in the front end
It could possibly be an engine mount or trans mount. If the rubber is wallerd out the metal can contact the bracket Or frame.

Re: Squeak in the front end
Sounds like universal joints need some lube...if the universal joints have grease nipples, give em a good shot of grease...
If they dont have nipples, its possible one or more are ready for replacement... If you replace em, get joints with grease nipples... |

Re: Squeak in the front end
Lubricate the crap out of one thing at a time then drive a few miles until it disappears or changes. It should be one of the last items lubricated.

Re: Squeak in the front end
I greased every nipple I could find in the front end, and we got the headers away from the frame. Guess we’ll try engine and trans mounts next

Re: Squeak in the front end
Here is a video of the sound..To be honest I’m not sure it’s even in the front end.. it’s so annoying!
It’s only when engine compression is slowing truck down.. any gas at all or neutral makes it stop. Also I broke the fuel gage somehow when I took the cluster off too paint ugh https://youtu.be/9WQTCSz63dI

Re: Squeak in the front end
Maybe exhaust hangers? Have you tried wigglin the exhaust around. Also here is a link for troubleshooting fuel gauges.

Re: Squeak in the front end
I don’t think it’s the exhaust hangers because they’re all installed with a rubber bushing between the metal of the hanger and the frame. I shake them and it doesn’t cause the sound.

Re: Squeak in the front end
I FOUND IT! Turns out it wasnt in the front end, but it was the carrier bearing, or possibly the U joints. the bracket that was holding the carrier bearing broke so i go that fixed, along with the drive shaft fixed because when it broke the ears on the yoke were all jacked up. $400 later new joints, new carrier bearing, drive shaft looks brand new, and the squeak is gone! ride quality is unspeakably better. so happy

Cool beans! I think you meant "unsqueakably better" though,

Thanks for following through with the solution. There are a lot of people that don't do that.... It helps others down the road. LockDoc
