Vibration, driveline not center, and wheel measurements off?
Hello my trusty forum guys/braniacs all things Chevy c10's! Another question to seek input on. After a long time of running the rear suspension sitting on the overload leaf springs, I found some 02 wrangler rear springs and set those in, thus lifting it back from the load leafs, and it dropped it from stock about 3" or so (no exact measurements taken.) With the drop spindles in front, and some chopped springs, it was raked like a dirty hooker on Saturday night. So, I leveled it out a bit by putting some uncut springs back in the front. Here is where my issues have begun.
I now notice something like a vibration, or shudder possibly, during a low speed takeoff from a stop. I know that driveline angle can affect things like that, and always needs to be considered when doing any drop, lift on suspension. Another thing I noticed, is after these adjustments, my driveline looks to be closer to the driver side of the trailing arm crossmember hole, and measuring the rear to front tire, it looks like the driver side is 1/2" shorter.... My question is, are all of things connected, should I shim the axle in the back with such little drop, and am I risking damage to my Bruce Jenner? Thank you guys so much! |

When you drop the rear you need an adjustable track bar to get it back to the center. I prefer the long ones like the ECE super track bar. Trouble with doing a wheel base measurement to the center of the wheel its hard to tell if the wheels are pointing straight in relation tot he rear.

Ok, that's what I thought too about the alignment. I looked at the front wheels, and the alignment is definitely off, and I can feel it when I drive too, steering kinda "floats." And the track bar is the panhard bar, right? Axle to rear frame crossmember? There is no adjusting the stock one then I'm guessing?

No adjustment on the stock one. You can measure from the wheel to the frame on each side in the rear and see how much it is off. On the alignment they were not the best stock with very little caster. There are two threads in the suspension to read that will get you a bit more up to speed on these trucks. One is the make it handle thread and the other is the caster mod thread. On mine I did the caster mod (1/2") and now run 4 degrees of caster in the front and that tightens the feel over the 1 degree or so stock. I also have a 2 degree wedge in the rear trailing arm mounts for the rear end to correct the pinion angle.

Should the rear wheel to frame measurement be made with the vehicle on or off the ground?
Greg.

Ok, I am taking it in to get aligned next week. Ill talk to my guy and see what he recommends. The driveline vibration and tranny killing stories always concern me.
