Repainting Interior

The interior plastic pieces in my 77 have the normal fading for its age. I would like to remove the pieces and paint them with the proper paint. Has anyone caused more problems by trying to remove all those pieces including dash for repaint ? I guess its more like the door panels, dash plastic, headliner trim and the floor board plastic. Any suggestions ?

be careful with the headliner because 9 times out of ten those hings like to come glued apart then you need a new headliner. Make sure you use interior dye rather then just piant because paint doesnt stick to the interior parts

Use the dye, I used the interior paint followed the directions to a t, and it still came off. Took it back and got my money back but now I have to redo it all.

I recommend the dye too on some pieces. I used vinyl primer and paint on my pieces. I have few pictures but on my web page. So far the trims pieces and the dash are holding up really good. It's the door panels and kickpanels that are pealing. The are pealing because of constant contact.

To clean the pieces, I used a solvent based degrease. Don't use a harsh degreaser or you'll melt the pieces. After the degreaser, I used some dish washing soap to clear off any remaining dirt or buildup. Sun dried the pieces and then primered them with a good coat. Let them dry for 24 hours then paint.

most inportant thang is to make sure panels are clean use a vinl cleaner and fine steel wool i always use gm stuff its more expensive but it has not failed on me wipe down with a clean rag use a plastic etching primmer to fill in any scratches always spray a light coat and let dry completely before applying next coat use the good vynil dye sray a good even thin coat let drye for 24 hours then apply a nother coat i always let them sit a couple of days between coats if it is not preped good they will flake real easy hope this helps .
