What type of muffler????
Gents, currently shopping around for a muffler for my 71 c10 shortbed. Any suggestions on brand and model that you guys think works best for an old 350 carbureted engine? Looking for something that sounds aggressive but won’t get to annoying in the cab. Definitely like some of the flow masters 44s but thought I would ask to see if you guys had another brand to look into maybe an off brand muffler?

Re: What type of muffler????
Mufflers are like motor oil, politics, religion, and women. Lots of opinions on what is best. With that said here is my experience. Magnaflow is my default all around go to muffler for price/sound/performance/build quality. Flow master sounds awesome at idle but as I get older the drone melts what is left of brain. Very recently tried a Hooker Aerochamber. I find that it is very quiet and stock sounding at idle but at full throttle gets loud and busy however it is not stainless. Just another guy's opinion for whatever it is worth.

Re: What type of muffler????
You say "muffler", not "mufflers", so I take it you are running single exhaust?

Re: What type of muffler????
What is your goal? For max output a straight through stainless muffler like the Magnaflow is the best. Big cams and Flowmasters go well together but not stock size cams IMO.
Jones makes a nice straight through muffler for 1/2 Magnaflow cost. For good performance that is more quiet, my go to muffler is the Walker turbo style. I have the Hemi Turbos on my Jimmy and a second set for the big block going into my short step.

Re: What type of muffler????
Guess I'm oldschool. I'm still using Smittys and dump in front of the back tire so there's not too much pipe. Really sounds good on my 350.

Re: What type of muffler????
Apples to oranges on engine size, but just had a custom bent 3" with an Xpipe, hooker headers and flowmaster 44's that end behind the axle installed, but still under the bed. No drone, nice aggressive sound out of my 396BB.

Re: What type of muffler????
Magnaflow. Nice subtle burble at idle, get into a nice sound with lots of throttle. All stainless steel and a lifetime warranty. Hard to beat.

Re: What type of muffler????
I use Dynomax Super Turbo's.
They sound so much better than the flowmasters the PO put on. Droned so bad I couldn't wait to cut them off and give them away.

Re: What type of muffler????
I have 2.5" Magnaflows on my '61 Bel Air sport coupe, carb'd zz454 BB. sounds good at idle, fairly loud when you hammer on it. Side exit before the rear tires, no drone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3ZdkoS3dCw I have 3" Borla XR-1's on my '69 C10, carb'd 532" Dart Big M, loud at idle, and the gates of hell open when you hammer on it. side exit before the rear tires, no drone, just loud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEwvVJLQ4sY I have old school 2.5" Turbo mufflers on my '65 Bel Air station wagon, 350 sbc w/carb - mellow & fairly deep at idle, not too loud when you hammer on it. side exit behind the rear tires, fairly quiet going down the highway. This one is my daily driver... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPGXZMeAIhA

Heartthrob basic, in front of the rear wheel with glass pacs. And yes it is a bit loud, but I ride a Harley with straighties.
