In-tank pump with 87 blazer tank/sender wiring
So I just got in all the parts I need to plumb my fuel with the 31 gal blazer tank.
GM14C tank FG12L sending unit EP381 pump I think I've seen a couple of times that the pump wiring on the sending unit needs to be beefed up a little for reliability. What gauge does it need to be replaced with? Also, never done anything with a fuel pump before, so wondering if there are any good tutorials or build threads with pictures for putting together the pump on the sending unit. It looks pretty straight forward, but I want to make sure I don't miss anything. Thanks in advance!

Re: In-tank pump with 87 blazer tank/sender wiring
you can't mess that up. It's a no brainer. The wiring on that pump with plug right into the connector on that sending unit.
Only problem I had was the fuel sender was bad right out of the box when I installed it. Luckily I didn't have the body back on it yet. I'd try to temporarily hook it up to your gauges to make sure it's working before you put it all in. I didn't mess with the wiring on mine.

Yeah, I was more wondering about all the clamps and sleeves and strainer basket and stuff. I'm sure I can find a picture and figure it out.

HAHA! You should never forget the strength of stupid people! There's a guy at work who forced the wiring plug on one backwards a few weeks ago, and it turns out that if you put 12v straight to the fuel level sender it burns it up straight away! Then you're left wondering why the fuel gauge doesn't work, and it cant be the sender because its new..... Replace gauge. .. Still dont work..... Remove sender and find the idiots handy work!

I’d quit, or fire him. Isn’t that some workplace violation...? I’ll take his money if he wants to keep giving it away!
As always thanks for all your help Eric. You da man with these swaps!

For anyone finding this post in the future, I figured it out no problem and the part numbers I listed fit together perfectly. Pic included.

What is your plan as far as a fuel fill? Don't you want it turned the other way?

I would prefer a driver side filler, but the driver's side of the bed is original paint with awesome patina and the passenger side is already all primer. I'd rather keep as much original paint as possible, so I'll deal with the passenger side filler.
