71-72 Front Brake Hose Tab Size - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Long Story short, my 71 frame was toast, so I got a 69 frame and swapped over everything else from the 71 except for the engine cross member. All the other suspension is from my 71 frame. When I went to look at redoing all the brake line stuff, I have discovered that on the pre- 1971 frames, the front brake hose tab on engine cross member is on the back side and in 1971 and 1972, it was on the front side...my old frame and cross member are long gone to either cut them off or measure. I do not think I can use the tabs on the current 68 cross member as they are keyed with a star pattern for drums and the 71-72 are keyed with a hex for discs.

I need the hole dimensions in the tab for a 1971/1972 brake hose tab so I can source a replacement. I could always measure the brake hoses but I have not ordered them yet and do not have the old ones.

Cant you just swap them side to side? Put the right rear on the left front and the left rear on the right front?

The tabs from the pre 71/72 trucks have a star hole pattern for drum hoses..I need the 71/72 style with the hex pattern for disc brakes.

Don't they still fit in? All hoses are hex?

My understanding from research is that in addition to the tab holes being different, the tab thicknesses are different and if you try to use drum hose with a thinner disc tab, it will sit loose and the disc hoses will not even extend far enough into the drum tabs to get a clip on it. I do not have the hoses yet, so I cannot say for sure. These are just the issues I have seen in my research.

On top of that, the tabs themselves are different with the drum tab being more or less flat and the disc tab is more of a 3 sided box bracket. I'd like to go original if possible.
