72 K25 tie rod question??
After searching the forum I still can't come up with a clear answer so hoping for a little help.
I'm rebuilding a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup with my son with the hopes he learns how to work on cars and he will eventually drive it when he's old enough. I'm unclear if the tie rod is original and if so, is the driver side end replaceable? It doesn't appear to be as it's not threaded like the passenger side but I guess it may be able to be pressed out? So my question is this - Is the drivers side end replaceable? If not.. is the Off Road Design set up the way to go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached are a few pics. Thanks!! |

Re: 72 K25 tie rod question??
Those 2 parts, the long one and the short one are replaceable. Look on rock auto for the part numbers then buy on amazon which is cheaper, I just did that this past summer.

Re: 72 K25 tie rod question??
Thanks for the reply, Randy. I actually ordered the parts from Rock Auto last week for both the centerlink and the tie rod ends. The centerlink parts I received are correct with one long ~8" and one short side ~6" with the coupling in the middle. The Right tie rod end is correct with the threaded end and the coupling but the one that came for the Left side is also threaded but only about 5" long... not 50".
Are you saying you ordered your Left tie rod (the one that's approx 50" long) from Amazon? I will look there again. I didn't see it before but maybe I have the incorrect name or I'm looking up the wrong part number? Thanks again! |

Re: 72 K25 tie rod question??
I went with the ORD 1-1/4" rod and ends. It appears to fit and look good, I have not driven it yet, so hopefullly it works as well as it looks.

Re: 72 K25 tie rod question??
Awesome guys. Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate it. I figured it wasn't the original but wasn't sure where to go from there.
Randy, Thank you for the part number... That looks like it. KWMech- I may give you a call in the next week or 2 and see what you can do with the parts I already have. |
