Anyway for a smoother ride?

I have a Ls swapped ridetech bagged 69 c10. The ridetech i just bought and installed is awesome but going over potholes and large bumps is bone shaking. As far as i know the suspension is stock besides the air bags and new shocks. Anything else i can add or modify to make the ride more similar to a modern car in terms of comfort over the ruff stiff? Any suggestions will be great! Thanks guys!

First thing is if ya put performance shocks that equals stiffer ride ... OEM would be softer..

i bought it with these shocks so not sure what they are but the bumps are super rough. Is there anything else like a additional suspension bits or bolt on a 4 link help

Are you bottoming out the suspension onto the bump stops or max travel on the shocks?

Are you running low profile tires? That is a big part of the problem if so, I had the same issues with my bagged c10 on 20's

yeah its on 20s semi low profile. damn. I want a smoother ride but these wheels look so good. it doesnt seem to be bottoming out i try to ride in the middle of the bags not all the way full not empty

I had the same issues, felt like a 80's vett going over bumps but otherwise it was fine.

I'm in Pittsburgh, the roads are pretty bad here also. I really like the look of the larger wheels, but on my current build I'm going with 17 or 18 and a quality static drop instead of baggs for a better ride.

I know it is hard to blame tires and wheels but if you have a buddy with a truck or another truck try another set of tires and wheels you will be surprised at the difference. Those low aspect ratio tires are a ride killer

Low aspect tires on large rims were devised for improved handling and larger brakes for sports track racing on light vehicles where the pavement is smooth with no pot holes, kept close to perfect.

These trucks ride really smooth in stock form...with radials. I'd see what other tires feel like, but first I'd look into the shocks. Could be ones that give a tight ride and/or incorrect travel lengths. Also, does the truck have urethane bushings, suspension and/or body. That will give a harsh ride on any suspension or tires.

When I got my truck it had stock style 15x8s and it rode nicely and had that Caddy feel over bumps. Then I switched to 22x9s with 35 series tires and what a difference. The ride all of a sudden was super stiff and if I hit any sort of pothole/bump/etc. the entire truck shudders. 95% of the time it still feels really good, but I am now hyper aware of the road surface and avoid any irregularities if I can.

What psi are you running in the bags? I'm running 75-80 front, 35-40 rear. Ride is exceptional, but its on 15s with big fat tires.

Shocks OEM ... just gonna do alot for meager results on the other stuff ....

Lay down behind your truck at full air'ed up height. Post a picture and lets see what we can figure out. Do you know if the rear shocks were relocated or are they in the stock location?

Choice of shocks on a bagged truck is very important. I went through three different high-end shocks before I finally found out that the best ride with an air ride truck were the Monroe Sensa tracs that you can pick up at any auto parts store. They have a progressive rate that is soft through most of the stroke and ramps up at the end.

Also as already noted your wheels are the primary suspension part on your vehicle a low profile Tire will directly equate to a bone jarring ride. If like me you have a full profile tire then the rating of a tire will also impact it. I have E Rated LT tires and could smooth the ride out with a D or p style Tire. But I run with no spare on the vehicle and prefer the extra durability of a 10 ply.

Besides the wheel/tire and shock ideas, I agree with Tim. My 67 c20 has stock size radials, but I feel and hear every imperfection in the road. I know for a fact the cab bushings are shot, and have a new factory style set ready to go in. I rode in a buddies Firebird that he had replaced all the suspension and body mounts with poly. Very cool car, but not one I could drive daily.

Any change in suspension bushings? Sometimes people switch over to hard polyurethane for example and those transmit everything....
