Ride Height and Tire Size Help
Hi guys! I am looking for some help with ride height and tire size on my 64 C10 short bed stepside. I have included a couple of pictures of the look I am going for.
I am thinking of using a little larger tire than what many seem to use (30-32 tall and 10.4-10.8 wide) if they will fit well. But very open to experienced opinions of course! I really like the way the green truck is setup (with a little more sidewall). Any idea what the tire height is and how much, if any, the front and rear has been lowered? I was thinking that maybe a 31.5 tire with 2 lowering spindles and 2 lowering springs in the rear may get me close? My truck will is COMPLETELY torn apart right now so I cant do any measurements. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
The green truck has 20” wheels likely. The bottom truck appears like 15” tires with 275/60’s on it.
The larger wheels usually don’t have that much sidewall on them as the smaller 15” tires do and yet still are 28-29” tall

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
Thanks for the reply. The most difficult part for me is determining the suspension height and tire diameter. Any idea if the ride height of the green truck if that is a 28-29 tire?

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
That green truck in the pictures has not been lowered much. You may find on the tire size you are thinking you are not going to get but so low. All depends on what the final goal is for your truck. I run a 28" tall tire front and back and a 4 1/2"/6" drop and the tires are up there pretty good.

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
I really need to take some better pics of mine, but here's what I've got.
2.5" drop spindles in the front and 3" drop springs in the back. Front is 235/50R18 - 27.3" Rear is 255/45R20 - 29" Front is a good fit. There's plenty of room to be at full lock and have suspension fully compressed without hitting. In the back, the full tire is tucked in the fender and about 1/4 inch of the wheel is tucked as well. Again no issues with fitment in the back, even with suspension fully compressed. |

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
Welcome to another Idahoan
Keep in mind that the stepsides have less room width wise on the rear to tuck a tire. The gray truck I would say is mostly stock suspension height and I agree on the tires likely being 275/60R15's. Do you have a particular wheel in mind?

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
Thanks for the pics and info guys. It has been helpful. I am going to look at the pics a little closer with your specs and see how that compares with what I was thinking. It looks like I am going to be on the smaller side for good fittment.
rvrfoot: what are your lowering specs and tire diameter? Captainfab- you are in the better part of the state. I grew up in Moscow and living near Boise now. These are the wheels that I am looking at, probably in an 18. I think they are available in 8 and 8.5 width with about 4 or 4.5 backspacing. Need to double check. |

Re: Ride Height and Tire Size Help
After thinking about it more I can see how a little smaller tire may fit better. Would a 275/55/18 (29.9x10.8) with 2.5" drop spindles and 3" rear lowering springs get me ballpark close, or would stock height be better for a tire of that size?
Are 275s on a 8" to 8.5" wide wheel too wide for a stepside? |
