Bought a 1970 C10 a few months ago for a father/son project. So far, so good. Truck was in pretty good shape but needs a bunch of fairly minor things fixed here and there. I'm sure I'll be posting a number of questions looking for help. I'm no mechanic, but know almost enough to be dangerous. Not afraid to dive right in, though.
We're having fun with it so far, and it should be ready for action by the time he gets his license later this year. |

Welcome. Looks like the truck is five lug wheels so you are already headed in the right direction, disc brakes.

What a nice truck to start with! Hope we can help with any issues. I search often for answers to subjects already solved in older threads too.

Re: First Post
Welcome - you have come to the right place. Prepare to have your mind blown.
Your son is very luck to have such a project for his first car and you are very lucky to have a son with such a nice project! Be prepared, my father did something similar with me for my first car and I have since spent most of my free time messing with late 60's and early 70's vehicles, you may be starting something that will last him the rest of his life given we don't run out of fossil fuels. lol

Looks like a nice little truck. My first vehicle was a 68 long step.
Your kid will be the coolest guy in the parking lot at school.

Re: First Post
Thanks, guys. I've been wanting to get an old vehicle to fix up since I was 15. Better late than never. My son is a huge classic car fan too, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do something like this with him.
I've been researching posts on the board for a while now. The search function is great. Been a huge help so far with rebuilding door hinges, locks, latches, rebuilding the heater controls (and removing the rats nest in the heater box), PCV valve, and generally figuring out the wiring. I think I'm adding projects to the list faster than I'm completing them, but that's probably not unusual. Couple of other pics below. |

Nice looking starter project! It's good to see you involve your son. My son stays involved with mine, too.
